To maximize picture quality UST projectors are typically paired with a special type of ambient light rejecting (ALR) screen material featuring a lenticular surface that reflects the projector's light towards the viewer, while absorbing ambient light in the room. While a UST projector can definitely produce a vibrant image when paired with the right screen they never deliver the pop and brightness of a direct view display, nor do they fully compete with ambient room lighting or deliver the same black levels.
