Análise comparativa dos desempenhos recentes das cidades de Petrolina e Juazeiro quanto a indicadores de trabalho e renda.

The present study proposes, by means of descriptive research, an analysis of the performances of Petrolina/PE and Juazeiro/BA in recent years regarding indicators about work (occupied population and personnel and local facilities) and income (average monthly wages), including some comparisons of these data with those of Pernambuco, Bahia and Brazil in the same period of time. Members of an integrated development administrative region and bathed by the San Francisco River, Petrolina and Juazeiro are known nationally for holding a strong agribusiness. Based on information made available by the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), it was found that both of them achieved good performances concerning work indicators, with advantage for the city from Pernambuco. However, they obtained poor results as to the income indicator, showing that there is still a long way to go until these average wages at least match those of the respective states.
