Abstract

This paper analyzes the formative experiences that take place in the school lunchroom. For this purpose, it is situated in shelter school located in the southern region of Mendoza. The process of children's involvement in school culinary practice is analyzed, paying attention to the ways in which peer relationships develop and describing the process by which students participate in increasingly complex ways. It is identified that in the participation process students go through three moments; in each one of them students are referred to as small, medium and large in the school context. These classifications are linked to belonging to certain grades, but they also imply the recognition of knowledge about the practices that take place in the school lunchroom. On the other hand, in these different phases, boys and girls are linked in different ways with their peers, assuming different forms of participation in the development of the task.
