Abstract
- Cytomegalovirus (CMV) and BK polyoma virus (BKV) coinfection is a severe and uncommon complication, manifested as tubulointerstitial nephritis in kidney grafts. Viral reactivations (CMV/BKV) cause renal dysfunction and are mainly related to the intensity of immunosuppression. We present 2 cases of renal transplant patients with CMV/BKV coinfection documented in renal biopsy. The gold standard for diagnosis is the identification of specific BKV/CMV inclusions by immunohistochemistry on histopathology. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
