Abstract

Ultrashort laser pulses are used to generate Laser-Induced Periodic Surface Structures (LIPSS). To apply LIPSS on small confined areas, the laser source must be focused to a small spot diameter. Contrary to commonly used high numerical aperture objectives, we present a Bessel beam-based approach to produce LIPSS covered lines with a width of 4 to 10 µm. Therefore, an 800 nm Ti:Sa-laser with a pulse duration of 110 fs and a repetition rate of 5000 Hz was used. The setup convinces with an extended depth of focus. Thus, high reproducibility of the process was proven, while no focus control and no specific requirements for the surface quality are needed. The applicability of this method is demonstrated by structuring the shell surface of nickel–titanium wires. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
