Abstract
- With illegal gun purchases,the bill focuses on gun trafficking andstraw purchasers, people who purchaseguns for other individuals who would notpass necessary background checks, andthe expansion of mental health programsand community behavioral health clinics. Focusing on publichealth, strengthening gun laws, and examiningpolice interactions and trainingare just some of the ways to reduce gun violence. Strengthening Gun Laws On June 25, 2022, President Joe Bidensigned the bipartisan gun safety bill.Touted as the most significant federallegislation to address gun violence to passsince 1994, this new legislation aimedto improve mental health support andschool safety, restrict firearm access fordomestic violence offenders, enable states toput in place laws that will allow authoritiesto take weapons from those deemed "dangerous,"and toughen background checksfor young gun buyers.
