Abstract

The article analyzes the impact of post-truth and social media on journalism in the digital era. It investigates whether post-truth affects the information societies receive and whether journalism has verified and contrasted the information delivered to the public. The results show that social media has deactivated the mediating function of the press, which hinders journalism's contribution to the formation of public opinion. Despite this, journalism remains a useful tool for confronting post-truth and preventing the erosion of the foundations of political participation. [Extracted from the article]
