TAXPAYER SUPPORT FOR THE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION CAMPAIGN FUND.

This paper presents the first accurate estimates of taxpayer participation in the presidential election campaign fund. Those estimates show public participation to be considerably higher than previously believed. A modest positive relationship between income level and participation is also demonstrated. These findings are related to participation rates for other forms of mass political activity and to reformers' intentions regarding public financing of election campaigns. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
