UV absorbing transparent sol-gel derived coatings on glass.

Abstract

The article reports that ordinary sheet glass transmits a part of the ultra violet light causing damages in human system. The application of some suitable thin films on glass alters the transmission property of the glass. Developing thin coatings on glass by sol-gel processing was found very much effective for decreasing the transmission property of the glass in this wavelength region. Moreover, the temperature of heat-treatment of 700-degree Celsius is not suitable for ordinary sheet glass used as windows.
