Abstract

This article recounts the experience of the author while traveling to the U.S. to observe the approach of world-renowned teams on the process of diagnosing autism spectrum disorders (ASD). The author believed that a diagnosis of ASD leads to a better understanding of 'the problem' and acts as a signpost to appropriate mechanisms of support. The process observed by the author was well defined and clearly articulated. The practitioners emphasize the significance to identify for each child a matrix of ability which identifies strengths, difficulties, and learning style.
