Abstract

Optimized shelving racks through the use of high‐strength steel Warehouse technology worldwide is characterized by booming online trade, limited space capacities and greater heights of rack structures. However, the technical design of racking systems follows the rapid development in logistics only sluggishly. The potential of modern high‐strength steels, which have long been established in automotive and mechanical engineering, is not fully exploited in modern storage technology, even though shelving is predestined for the use of high‐strength steels. The aim of the FOSTA research project P1512 (IGF Nr.21465/N) was therefore to develop the material‐specific, manufacturing and dimensioning fundamentals for the use of high‐strength steels in shelving. For this purpose, on the one hand, the suitability of various high‐strength steels for their use in floors and supports was tested. On the other hand, the load‐bearing and stability behavior of shelf uprights made of high‐strength steel was analyzed through experimental investigations; numerical simulations are used to optimize upright geometries so that their cross‐sections can be utilized with the lowest possible material input.
