Abstract

This book, although about Texas natural history, could serve as a model for any state or region to record change in animal populations over extended periods of time. The Black Bear ( I Ursus americana i ), thought to be extinct in Texas as recent as 2002 ([3]), is actively reproducing in at least four mountain regions in Texas, and possibly present in as many as 70 counties across Texas ([2]). The role of climate change on Texas mammals includes a discussion of the destructive impact that arctic weather in Texas during February 2021 had on several mammal species.
