Abstract

We built an integrated modeling framework that captures individual power project characteristics within an energy system model that simulates three socioeconomic scenarios that harmonize land-use change, climate impacts on water availability, final energy demands, and climate policy options. Yet, in the short term, especially in the transition to a net-zero emissions energy system, hydropower represents a cheap alternative to displace fossil fuels, especially coal. Cost-optimal hydropower expansion. [Extracted from the article]
