The article reviews the role of mutual recognition in the subject’s selfunderstanding based on Axel Honneth’s theory and relates it to the philosophical notion of autonomy, as well as to a moral conception of identity. The article emphasizes the adolescent stage and considers challenges that the philosophical perspective of recognition identifies in the development of autonomy.
