Abstract
- Specialized psychological interventions have been developed to reduce the negative impact on body image in patients with breast cancer; however, there are no systematic reviews to assess their efficacy. Objective. To evaluate the evidence and feasibility of psychological interventions available for body image problems in patients with breast cancer. Method. Fifteen articles emerged in four essential databases following the PIO system. Articles appeared between 2011 and 2020. There Seven interventions were analyzed using the PICO system. Additionally, the Shekelle criteria identified each intervention's level of evidence and recommendation. Results. 85% of the studies were conducted in high-income countries; 71% of interventions used individual modality; 71.42% used a face-to-face model, and 28.57% a digital version. The interventions implemented different approaches and strategies, such as cognitive behavioral components, hypnosis, and reflective writing, but all were brief, with an average of six sessions. Interventions with cognitive-behavioral components showed greater efficacy consistency, evidence level, and recommendations than the other studies. Discussion and conclusion. There are different alternatives for psychological intervention to attend body-image problems in patients with breast cancer. Interventions could have an impact even on distal variables, such as depression and quality of life. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
