Abstract

Equations that describe elastic wave propagation in a fracturing solid are obtained. It is shown that a solution to an equation for the velocity potential of longitudinal waves of acoustic emission can be represented as the superposition of the fields of an ensemble of radiating cavities known as monopoles. The monopole ensemble parameters are selected so as the structural characteristics of a medium with cavities barely differ from those of a solid. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
