Abstract

In Colombia, during covid-19 quarantine, approximately every ten minutes a complaint of domestic violence was made. This article estimates the probability of physical violence against women in Bogota under mandatory isolation. This estimate is based on probabilistic logit econometric models that measure different socioeconomic variables of women victims of physical violence in Bogota as: place of residence, age, marital status, occupation, type of relationship with the aggressor, socioeconomic stratum, level of schooling, and whether the violence occurred in a private or public space. Thus, it is evident that women who do not have their own income and live in lower socioeconomic strata areas of the city are more likely to be victims of physical violence. In turn, it is found that the localities with the highest probability of this type of violence are: Rafael Uribe Uribe, Teusaquillo and Ciudad Bolivar. Likewise, it is evident that being in a private space increases the probability of being a victim of violence, so that in confinement the risk of suffering physical violence in the homes increased.
