Abstract

The search for preparations to treat prostate diseases is an urgent problem of modern medicine. It is known that selenium has long been used in homeopathic practice to treat prostate diseases, but there are no data on studies of the effect of homeopathic selenium at the cellular level in the literature. In addition to these positive functions in the body, selenium in doses slightly exceeding therapeutic ones causes toxicity. The combination of the administered dose and the chemical form of selenium plays a fundamental role in determining its toxicity. In the framework of the experiment, hypertrophy of the prostate gland was induced in a group of experimental animals, and the effect was studied on the created model caused by various forms of nano selenium (homeopathic selenium (30th potency), electronic selenium (30th potency) and nano selenium (particle size of 30-50 nm) at dosages of 0.0001 mg/kg and 0.01 mg/kg of the body weight. Histological studies revealed the effect of various types of nano selenium on the secretory, excretory parts of the glandular parenchyma and the stroma of the prostate gland, leading to structural and functional changes. After four weeks of administration, the animals were tested for malonic anhydride (MDA) in the blood and the oxidative enzyme, superoxide dismutase (SOD), against the background of the use of selenium preparations. An increase in the volume of the prostate gland was observed in all experimental animals in comparison with the control. An increase in the level of MDA and a decrease in the activity of SOD indicated a decrease in lipid peroxidation processes. Nano selenium is the one most accelerating natural pathomorphism after 30 days of oral administration of various selenium. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
