Abstract

The article presents newsbrief related to computer industry from Asia. While awaiting a final decision from the U.S. Export-Import Bank regarding its requested $769 million loan to purchase U.S. chipmaking equipment, Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corp. reportedly is turning to Japanese suppliers. It further inform that Toshiba Corp. and SanDisk Corp. from Japan have accelerated the ramp-up of their newly completed joint 300mm NAND flash-memory. National Semiconductor Corp. of Singapore is seeking a buyer for its test and assembly plant in Toa Payoh, geared mostly toward complex highpin count digital products, which are no longer a focus for the company.
