Abstract

The article reports that in an exhibition hall at the 2005 World Exposition in Aichi, Japan, a gigantic newspaper covering more than 5 square meters delivers the news to passersby in crisp black and white, unlike a traditional broadsheet, which goes from printing press to trash bin within a few hours, the Yomiuir Global Newspaper never becomes old news. Produced by Japan's Toppan Printing Co. and the American high-tech firm E Ink Corp., the newspaper is just one of several demonstradons, prototypes, and products featuring the new technology. Philips envisions using the screens for retractable displays on hand-held devices and plans to begin design for production this year, says Hans Driessen, a spokesperson for Philips Research in Eindhoven, Netherlands.
