The article informs about the papers from the 46th Annual Meeting of the APS Division of Plasma Physics (DPP) held Savannah, Georgia in the year 2004. The full program of the Savannah meeting included a presentation by the 2004 Maxwell Prize recipients, Valery Godyak and Noah Hershkowitz. The meeting facilitated numerous topical satellite meetings, as well as the highly successful Teacher's Day and Plasma Physics Expo involving teachers and students from area schools. Like the DPP meeting itself, this Special Issue contains exciting research advances and reflects the central themes in today's plasma physics.
