Abstract

BACKGROUND: Hypoglycemia is defined by a plasma glucose concentration lesser than 70 mg/dL; however, signs and symptoms may not be apparent until plasma glucose concentrations fall below 55 mg/dL. CLINICAL CASE: A 41-year-old male patient with a history of intense chronic alcoholism was taken to the emergency room due to altered alertness, hypoglycemia was documented. He received medical treatment; however, as he did not show improvement, a brain magnetic resonance imaging was performed in which hyperintensities were observed in the basal ganglia and splenium of the corpus callosum. CONCLUSIONS: The characteristics in the different expected sequences are: T1: low signal, T2: high signal, DWI: reversible diffusion restriction. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
