Abstract

Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani is a prominent figure in the field of hadith. His prominence is evident through the production of 273 works across diverse fields. The renowned literary work, al-Munabbihat ‘ala al-Isti‘dad li Yawm al-Ma‘ad, is a well-known work commonly attributed to him. However, contemporary hadith experts have raised questions regarding the authorship of this particular work due to the challenges associated with applying the takhrij methodology to the numerous hadiths included therein, thereby creating uncertainty surrounding its provenance and standing. For this reason, the significance of Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani, who held the honorific title of Amir al-Mu’minin in the realm of hadith, has not been duly acknowledged. Thus, the present study is intended to reassess the authenticity and credibility of Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani’s attribution of al-Munabbihat ‘ala al-Isti‘dad li Yawm al-Ma‘ad to his oeuvre. This study employs a qualitative research method, specifically content analysis, and draws comparisons with other literary works authored by Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani. Research findings conclude that the authorship of the book in question cannot be attributed to Ibn Hajar al-‘Asqalani and that the false authorship has persisted for a period of 132 years. Therefore, it is deemed inappropriate to persist with his affiliation with such an authorship, despite the fact that multiple parties are currently engaging in such activity, as it will potentially tarnish his reputation as a significant figure in the realm of hadith.
