Abstract
- The paper explores some issues in relation to oral history and memory that emerge in Alessandro Portelli's The Order Has Been Carried Out. I examine the contemporary role of the oral historian, the relationship between the present and the past in memory work, and make some comments about how we might articulate the field of oral history with memory studies more closely for the enrichment of Both.
