Abstract

A novel series of transition metal complexes of Co (III), Ni(II), and Cu(II) has been developed were prepared using the novel azo-schiff base ligand 5-{[(E)(4hydroxyphenyl) methylidene]amino}-2-[(E)-(6-methoxy-1,3benzothiazol-2-yl)diazenyl]phenol (HLH) from the reaction of benzothiazol diazonium chloride with 3-aminophenol Elemental analysis (C,H,N,S), magnetic susceptibility to molar-conductance and spectrum methods such as FT-IR" Electronic spectra' and Mass spectrometry' have been used to analyze them. The spectrum investigations of the complexes demonstrate that the azo–schiff" base as a tridentate ligand coordinates through the deprotonated phenolic oxygen N3 of the benzothiazole' ring and N3 of the azo-group which is the furthest away from the benzothiazole molecule. There are complexes that are non-electrolyte and non-conductive, such as Ni(II) and Cu(II), however Co(III) is an electrolyte (1:1). The novel ligand azo – schiff' base (HLH) and its metalcomplexes have been identified as antioxidative and anticancer. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
