Abstract

Scabies is a pruritic skin condition transmitted by Sarcoptic mites. A moderately strong correlation was observed between scabies word usage frequency and data from Savin et al.[6] on the percentage of patients admitted with scabies to the Edinburgh Skin Dispensary (1896-1960) (rs = 0.44) and for the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary (1908-1960) (rs = 0.58). The sampling interval was divided by this amount to obtain the cycle length.[5] Figure 1a shows scabies word frequency usage in the British English corpus from 1800 to 2019.
