Abstract

Abstract: Several dozen reports of epidemics of asthma during thunderstorms have been published during the past 20 years. It has been suggested that these epidemics may be explained by exposure of atopic patients with pollinosis to high concentrations of pollen, particularly in urban areas with air pollution, by meteorological factors such as humidity, wind and temperature, and by the presence of airborne fungal spores. However, since most thunderstorms are not associated with epidemics of asthma, it is therefore not yet possible to establish a predictive model. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
