Abstract

This paper attempts to look at reading and all that this implies, to somehow find a viewpoint, such as a look at oneself and through the eyes of oneself, regarding one situation or another, one matter or another. This view arises from tension between the text of fiction and the reader, carried to his or her maximum development in the dynamic of otherness. This tension is also present due to the attempt to apply the text to the situation the reader experiences, because a text is understood, when it is understood, always in a different way in each case. The tension also has to do with "the identity of the shared matter and (...) the changing situation in which one is trying to understand it". This work comes from some notes made in the empty spaces on pages of Todos los Nombres (All the Names) by José Saramago, seen as a fictitious story, and from words not expressed in the reading, which the act of reading causes to resonate in the reader.
