Abstract
- The emergence of the vehicular network makes the early road safety warning become possible because vehicles can retrieve road safety information via the vehicular network. The topology of the vehicular network is frequently fragmented due to some reasons such as vehicle mobility. To guarantee communication continuity, vehicular data is usually uploaded to infrastructures so that vehicles can download data from these infrastructures. However, in some places such as suburban parts of a city, infrastructures are sparsely deployed, which leads to long delays of data delivery and failures of data reception. Nowadays, resources of parking vehicles are not fully utilized, so we are motivated to exploit parking vehicles to work as virtual infrastructures and provide data for driving vehicles. Based on this idea, we propose a vehicular Data Delivery based on Virtual Infrastructures (DDVI) and aim to reduce data delivery delays and failures. In DDVI, parking vehicles in the peripheral area of a parking lot are elected as gateways so that driving vehicles on the roads surrounding the parking lot can rely on gateways and name-centric reverse paths to share data from the nearest provider via one data delivery process. DDVI is evaluated, and the experimental results demonstrate its strengths. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
