Abstract
- The article focuses on a serial runaway slave in New Orleans, Louisiana, between 1733 and 1748, known as Baptiste. The author explains that he was a 13-year-old Chickasaw Native and that his mixed-race half-sister, Marianne, also ran away repeatedly. He discusses the Capuchins, a religious order of Franciscan friars, who repeatedly returned these runaways to the merchant who owned them.
