Abstract

The article takes a look at the traditional practices and beliefs of Indigenous peoples of the Americas relating to solar eclipses. It discusses the Navajo Nation's practice of reverence and reflection during annular eclipses and the adverse view of the Maya people and other Indigenous peoples in Mexico and Central America of eclipses including its association with omens, destruction and drought. It highlights the belief of Indigenous peoples in Brazil on eclipses as caused by evil spirit.
