Abstract

The article focuses on the daily turnover of active giant virus infection during algal blooms, highlighting the use of single-cell RNA sequencing to profile virus and host transcriptomes of 12,000 single algal cells from a coccolithophore bloom. The study reveals that viral infection occurred already at the early exponential bloom phase, with a consistent percentage of infected cells displaying the early phase of viral replication for several consecutive days.
