Abstract
- F Immunohistochemistry was positive for chromogranin, synaptophysin, and pan-cytokeratin with a high proliferative rate (Ki-67 > 95%) Discussion Small cell carcinomas (SCCs), which most commonly originate in the lungs, represent < 0.2% of primary colorectal cancers [[1]]. A 30-year-old female with no family history of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or colorectal cancer was diagnosed with ulcerative pancolitis (UC) in 1999. Though SCCs are rarely observed in patients with IBD, one case series identified mixed adenocarcinoma/SCCs in three IBD patients, two of whom died within 12 months after tumor excision [[3]].
