Abstract

To guide the engineering application of bio-drying of kitchen waste, the effect of process conditions (bulking agent, proportion of bulking agent, air-flow rate) on bio-drying of kitchen waste were investigated three bulking agents, four proportions of bulking agent and four gradients of air-flow rate were selected in bio-drying process. Temperature, moisture content and volatile solid(VS) removal rate were analyzed to assess the bio-drying effect. The results show that adding sawdust can shorten the heating phase and prolong the thermophilic phase. The moisture content reduction of adding sawdust is 31. 97%, 18. 57% higher than control group with only kitchen waste. Adding 15% sawdust shows the best bio-drying effect. The highest temperature is 63. 8 ℃ and the moisture content reduces by 32. 36% . Different air-flow rates affect temperature accumulation and moisture loss of materials. At an air-flow rate of 0. 4 L/ (kg·min), the organic matter consumption is the least and water removal effect is the best. In the actual application of bio-drying of kitchen waste, 15% sawdust can be considered as the bulking agent, and air-flow rate is 0. 4 L/ (kg·min). [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
