Abstract

This article presents the history of Jerusalem and some information on the controversy surrounding the Noble Islamic Sanctuary of al-Aqsa. Many individuals, and news reports, confuse the Dome of the Rock with the al-Aqsa mosque, sometimes, it seems, in a deliberate attempt to prepare the world for future scenarios. Over the years, Israeli intelligence sources have spread rumors about the intention of some radical Jewish groups to bomb or destroy Al Aqsa. These threats, moreover, occur in the context of Israeli President Moshe Katsav's proposal to divide the Al Aqsa compound and construct a Jewish synagogue on half of it, and of Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's frank declaration that he has no intention of sharing Jerusalem with the Palestinians. INSET: ISRAEL'S CONTINUED ETHNIC CLEANSING OF JERUSALEM.
