Abstract

Lacan’s proposal of the clinical section in 1977 is the most successful conclusion for a dispositive where analytic knowledge is accessible to a group. With the practice of the presentation of patients, Lacan does not perpetuate the medical tradition, rather he subverts it. Historically Lacan recognizes the importance of the birth of a new clinic as a condition for the emergence of analytic discourse. This article aims to show a point of convergence between Michel Foucault and Jacques Lacan, despite the differences. Lacan will make many allusions to The Birth of the Clinic years after its publication. He was a rigorous and constant reader of Foucault’s work, but the only book to which he refers explicitly in his Écrits is The Birth of the Clinic. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
