The article summarizes the 20 most relevant studies of the year selected by the Canadian Medical Association. The studies address topics such as cholesterol reduction, vitamin D supplements, antidepressant treatment, insomnia treatment, asthma, inhaler use, irritable bowel syndrome diagnosis, prediabetes, and metformin treatment. Conclusions and recommendations based on the results of these studies are presented, including the association between a lower Hgb A1c level and more hypoglycemic events, the effectiveness of the medications amitriptyline, duloxetine, and pregabalin in the treatment of diabetic neuropathy pain, and the preference for communicating risks to patients using numbers instead of words.
