Abstract

The final essay, a fitting companion to Baumgärtner and Ferro's, is DuBois's impressive investigation of five illustrated pilgrimage guidebooks, including Burchard's I Descriptio i , to demonstrate how their physical manipulation enhanced - even generated - imaginal Holy-Land journeys. Part four showcases work on Holy-Land maps by Emmanuelle Vagnon, Ingrid Baumgärtner and Eva Ferro, and Raoul DuBois. Vagnon assesses the sixteenth-century reception of such maps when paired in humanist geographies with maps of Ptolemy's Geography. [Extracted from the article]
