An I LQ i special issue next year will explore another way that libraries and their supporters can combat antilibrary efforts: through direct civic engagement. As we write this editorial, the legislatures of more than a half-dozen states have passed laws with criminal penalties for librarians, although some governors have vetoed the legislation and the state court in one case blocked implementation of that state's law.
