Abstract
- Women printers find their unique ways to establish affinities with letterpress on their own terms, approach letterpress with reflections contributing to their practice and leave works shaping the female printing history. Specifically, she situates letterpress printing in a gender discussion with reference to the book history and elaborates on the multi-layered semantics of the embodied printing language. In her new book, I Women and Letterpress Printing 1920-2020: Gendered Impressions i , Claire Battershill looks back into the history of printing and brings the efforts and works of women printers to the fore.
