Abstract

This research was conducted to determine the effects of alternative measurement and evaluation on the knowledge, attitude and motivation levels of 7th grade students towards science lesson. In the research, quasi-experimental method, pretest-posttest experimental design with control group was used. The research was conducted in a public secondary school in Van and lasted for 14 weeks. There are 35 students in the control group and 37 students in the experimental group. Data were collected with Knowledge Test, Attitude and Motivation Scale. In the control group, student-centered teaching using traditional measurement and evaluation tools was applied, and in the experimental group, student-centered teaching using alternative measurement and evaluation techniques was applied. In the study, a significant increase was found in the level of knowledge in both the control and experimental groups. While there was a significant increase in the attitude and motivation level of the experimental group, there was no significant increase in the attitude and motivation level of the control group. In addition, the knowledge, attitude and motivation post-test and follow-up test scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than the control group. This shows that alternative measurement and evaluation contribute to the level of knowledge, attitude and motivation. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
