Abstract
- According to the latest report of the Summer Institute of Linguistics (SIL) International, Ayta Magbukun, which has approximately one thousand speakers, is currently one of the Philippine languages with the smallest population. The present paper seeks to contribute to the limited documentation and studies on the said language by providing a brief discussion on some of the phonological characteristics of Ayta Magbukun. The discussion specifically revolves around the following areas: segmental and suprasegmental phonemes, phonotactics, and morphophonological processes. In order to provide a comprehensive analysis of the topic, methods commonly used in acoustic phonetics were employed in this study, such as the use of computer software Praat and JPlot Formants.
