Etnik Kimliğin Yeniden İnşasında Yerel Basının Rolü: "Nevruz-Newroz" Kutlamalarının Iğdır Basınına Yansıması.

As a tool of socialization, the press plays an effective role in the construction and reconstruction of collective identity. Elements that define identity can be disseminated and preserved through the press. Ethnic identity, as one of the collective identities, is reconstructed in the social arena through various rituals based on history, culture, mythology, etc. At this point, the representation of ethnic identities by the press and the presentation of rituals are important. In this study, the role of local press in the reconstruction of identity is examined in Iğdır, where Azerbaijani Turks and Kurds live together as two upper ethnic identities. The study seeks to answer how the Nevruz-Newroz festival, which holds significance for both ethnic identities, is presented in Iğdır local press and how the "us-others" dichotomy is constructed. To achieve this, the critical discourse analysis method of Van Dijk was used to analyze the Nevruz-Newroz content published in the March 2023 issues of local newspapers such as Yeşil Iğdır, Güven, Aras, Doğuş, and Iğdır Yaşar. The study found that Yeşil Iğdır, Güven, and Iğdır Yaşar newspapers presented the festival from the perspective of Azerbaijani Turks, while Doğuş and Aras newspapers presented it from the perspective of Kurds. The findings showed a parallelism between the ethnic identities and political views of newspaper owners and the way the festival was presented in their newspapers. This suggests that the newspapers played an important role in the reconstruction of the two upper identities in Iğdır. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
