Abstract

This article discusses a study conducted in Sweden that aimed to investigate the association between the gut microbiome and allergic asthma in a cohort of twin children aged 9 to 14. The study found no evidence of differences in the overall gut microbial richness or composition between healthy controls and children diagnosed with allergic asthma, asthma only, or IgE sensitization only. The combined activity of raised IgE and asthma on the differential abundance in allergic asthma was almost exclusively additive, with no systematic evidence for synergistic or antagonistic effects. The study provides valuable insights into the role of the gut microbiome in asthma and contributes to the understanding of allergic diseases. [Extracted from the article]
