It's time to emerge: A phenomenal new woman in ShashiDeshpande's A matter of Time.

ShashiDeshpande is one of the few Indian women writers who have made significant contributions to shaping the minds of oppressed women seeking identity. She portrays a woman's role in everyone's life as a mother, a daughter, a sister, a wife and so on. Deshpande's candid representation and her convincing approach towards the marginalized women against the patriarchal domination in all her works is the clear evidence of her feminist discourse. The present paper is an attempt to analyse the novel "A Matter of Time" and the focus of the paper is to represent how women emerge as a storm to break their barriers and no longer dependent for their opposite sex. The study highlights the fact that, the sufferings and obstructions of the society and the so-called societal code which is made by men have well-been surmounted, and the women have transformed from conventional into modern, and emerge as an independent, self-respectful and a new woman.
