Abstract

This article discusses the concept of laparoscopic intracorporeal rectus muscle aponeuroplasty (LIRA) for parastomal hernia repair. Parastomal hernias are more common in patients with end colostomies, and there is currently no consensus on the best approach for repairing them. The modified Sugarbaker technique is favored over the keyhole approach when using laparoscopy. The LIRA technique, originally used for midline ventral hernia repair, has been successfully applied to parastomal hernias, providing a tension-free closure and the advantages of laparoscopic surgery. The article includes a video vignette demonstrating the LIRA technique for parastomal hernia repair. [Extracted from the article]
