Abstract

Objective: This paper aims to conduct a systematic review (Cochrane model; PRISMA and PROSPERO: CRD42021244736) to study clinical data on different techniques used for the impression of patients in Complete Denture. Methods: The PubMed/Medline, Cochrane Collaboration, Web of Science, and SciELO databases were analyzed using these related keywords: “Complete denture,”; “Impression techniques,”; “material, dental impression.” From an initial sample of 2,167 papers, we selected 12 Randomized Controlled Trials (RCT), which compared different impression techniques. The collected data were tabulated qualitatively and quantitatively using Comprehensive Meta-Analysis software. The significance level considered was P<0.05. Results: In six studies comparing the number of control visits to obtain a complete denture, there was no significant difference between groups (P=0.794), the conventional methods (131 complete dentures) vs. the simplified process (with 136 full dentures). Other five papers, comparing 134 conventional prostheses vs. 144 prostheses obtained by the simplified method and measuring quality of life, indicated no significant difference between the groups compared, P=0.680. Conclusion: According to these data, different clinical methods may be viable to obtain a complete denture, specifically comparing conventional impression methods vs. simplified ones. Simplified techniques for complete dentures can be helpful when effectively used, as they reduce treatment time and financial costs without harming the patient’s quality of life.
