Abstract
- The article presents the work of Caroline Cunill, who has studied interethnic relations in Mexico during the 16th century. In her book, Cunill analyzes two letters in the Mayan language written by chiefs during this period, highlighting the importance of defenders of indigenous people, interpreters, and translators in the communication between the Mayan peoples of Yucatan and the colonial authorities. The book is part of the Indomexican Library, which seeks to preserve linguistic diversity and rescue indigenous languages. The text analyzes two letters written by Mayan chiefs in 1567 and 1580, in which they use Mayan voices to conceptualize their relationship with the Spanish Crown. These letters reflect the importance of the Mayan language and culture in communication with the Royal Court. [Extracted from the article]
