Abstract
- This article provides a summary of the findings and research in medieval archaeology in Britain and Ireland in 2022. It focuses on the reports from the Portable Antiquities Scheme (PAS), which records archaeological finds discovered by the public in England and Wales. The PAS database contains a significant number of records, including early-medieval finds, high and later medieval finds, and coins from various periods and regions. The article highlights interesting discoveries such as saucer brooches and a seal matrix, as well as the focus on coinage in 2022. It also mentions notable finds, including rare coins from specific mints and foreign coins from Scotland, the Low Countries, and Venice. In addition to coinage, the PAS recorded a variety of medieval objects that provide insights into everyday life. The text discusses different archaeological finds from various time periods and regions in England, providing details about their design and significance. It also describes two brooches that may be evidence of a plough-damaged burial and a seal matrix associated with a powerful family in Northumberland. [Extracted from the article]
