Abstract

Growing teratoma syndrome (GTS) is a rare disease that occurs in patients with immature teratoma (IMT) or mixed malignant germ cell tumors. Its characteristics are that during adjuvant chemotherapy or after chemotherapy after surgery treatment, the tumor markers are normal, the residual lesions of surgery are enlarged or other masses appear, and the postoperative pathological examination only shows mature teratoma tissue, without malignant germ cells. Complete surgical resection is the preferred option for the treatment for GTS, while immunoregulation, chemotherapy, and radiofrequency can stop the disease progression. The diagnosis of this disease is clear, but the incidence is low, and it is easy to be misdiagnosed as malignant tumor recurrence. A case of ovarian GTS after IMT is reported. Relevant literature is reviewed to improve the understanding of the disease, enrich clinical experience, and reduce misdiagnosis and underdiagnosis. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
